MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- On Monday, November 1, 2021 Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey has returned an Indictment against a 51-Year-Old Maple Shade, New Jersey man for fatally beating his roommate earlier this year at the care facility where they resided in Maple Shade, New Jersey.
Dave Lake has been Indicted on One Count of First Degree Murder. The indictment was returned Thursday, October 22, 2021 and signed by Prosecutor Coffina. An arraignment will be held next month in Superior Court in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
The investigation began after Members of The Maple Shade Police Department and The Maple Shade First Aid Squad responded to the Palace Rehabilitation and Care Center in the 300 block of West Mill Road in Maple Shade on the morning of January 17, 2021, on a report of an assault.
The investigation determined that Mr. Lake had attacked Melvyn Waldo, 78, who was immobile and nonverbal, while the victim was in his bed in their room.
Mr. Waldo succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced deceased on March 5, 2021 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.
An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood ruled the Death a Homicide and determined the cause was due to complications from the Head and Facial injuries Waldo received during the beating.
The Charge against Mr. Lake was upgraded March 18, 2021 from First Degree Attempted Murder to First Degree Murder. Mr. Lake is presently being held at the Ann Klein Forensic Center in West Trenton, New Jersey.
