MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- On Monday, November 22, 2021 Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey has returned an Indictment Charging a 22-Year-Old Bensalem, Pennsylvania for Fatally Shooting a Teenager at a Willingboro Township Gas Station on August 2, 2021.

The Grand Jury returned the Indictment on Thursday, November 18, 2021, Charging Mr. Phillips with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

An arraignment will be scheduled in Burlington County Superior Court. Mr. Phillips has been lodged in The Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, New Jersey since his Arrest two days after the Shooting.

The investigation began August 2, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., when Members of The Willingboro Township Police Department responded to The Phillips 66 gas station in the First Block of Reverend  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on a report of a Shooting.

Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that the Victim, 14-Year-Old Jesse Everett of Willingboro, had been transported by way of private vehicle to Virtua Willingboro Hospital. Mr. Everett was then airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased approximately 5:30 p.m. the same day.

Mr. Phillips, who was staying in Willingboro at the time of the shooting, was immediately identified as a suspect in the shooting, and charges were filed against him the next day.

The investigation revealed that a day before the Shooting, the owner of a 2014 Honda Civic had contacted Township Police to report that the vehicle had been stolen. It was determined that the owner of the Civic would frequently allow Mr. Phillips to use the car. The investigation further revealed that just prior to the shooting, Mr. Phillips was riding in a vehicle being driven by his girlfriend, Chelsea Holman, 29, of Willingboro, New Jersey when they spotted the stolen car at the pumps of the gas station.

Ms. Holman pulled into the gas station and came to a stop behind the Civic, which was being driven by Mr. Everett. Mr. Phillips exited and went to the driver’s side of the Civic, where he confronted Mr. Everett before firing a single shot into the vehicle, striking him in the head. Two other people were inside the car with Everett but did not sustain injuries.

Ms. Holman and Mr. Phillips drove away after the Shooting. Ms. Holman was Charged by The Grand Jury in the same Indictment with Third Degree Hindering Apprehension; and Fourth Degree Obstructing Administration of Law. Ms. Holman was released on Pretrial restrictions.

The investigation was conducted by The Willingboro Township Police Department and The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, with assistance from The City of Burlington Police Department and The U.S. Marshals Service  New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, which includes The Burlington County Sheriff's Department.
