October 20, 2021 By Art Fletcher Reporting For: Englebrook Independent News,

RANDOLPH, NJ.- On October 19, 2021, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Samantha DeNegri, Sergeant Patrick LaGuerre, Detective Supervisor Stephanie Merced, and Assistant Prosecutor Bridget Carr visited the students of Randolph High School, and lead a presentation on cyberbullying and bias issues.

Presenters stressed the importance of exercising good judgement when it comes to how you interact with others or what you post online, since posting or sharing a photo, video or other material could have consequences on your college or job prospects. Another key takeaway was that photos and videos on your phone can still be accessed even after deletion from the device.

Sergeant LaGuerre of The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office explained to the students the difference between bias crimes and bias incidents, and how schools have leverage to take disciplinary action even if a matter isn’t considered criminal. Supervising Assistant Prosecutor DeNegri explained the potential legal ramifications of bias, cyber harassment and sexting.

Junior and Senior students were able to ask questions of the presenters after the program.

Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said, “Our bias and bullying program, presented by the knowledgeable members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, is a valuable tool to engage with our local youth and educate them on the negative impacts of such conduct. We aim to help our students understand the long-term damage that can result from these behaviors, as well as to reinforce smart decision-making skills.”
