HAWTHORNE, NJ.- On Thursday, October 14, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Hawthorne Police Chief James W. Knepper announced that based upon an investigation by The Hawthorne Police Department, Ryan Thompson, 44, of Hawthorne, New Jersey was arrested in connection to a Stabbing Investigation that occurred on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, in the area of Minerva and Hawthorne Avenues in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
Mr. Thompson has been Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; and Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a 73-Year-Old male Vernon, New Jersey resident entered The Hawthorne Police Department Headquarters and informed Police Officers he had been Stabbed.
The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment. Based on the investigation, Mr. Thompson was identified and later Arrested in the area Minerva and Hawthorne Avenues in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
The sentencing exposure, if convicted for Mr. Thompson on First-Degree Attempted Murder is Ten to Twenty Years New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act and Five Years parole supervision; on Second-Degree Aggravated Assault is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act and Three Years parole supervision; and on Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is Three to Five Years New Jersey Prison.
