WAYNE, NJ.- On Friday, September 24, 2021 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Amjad Mashal, 29, Wayne, New Jersey, on Bribery and A Controlled Dangerous Substance Possession Charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
In March 2021, Amjad Mashal was Kidnapped by several individuals who were Charged with Kidnapping, Weapons Offenses, and other Related Charges in April 2021.
An investigation by The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad revealed that Mr. Mashal thereafter communicated with a family member of one of the Kidnapping Defendants who bribed Mr. Mashal with approximately $100,000 in consideration for submitting a New Sworn Statement to The Court which would result in one of the defendants being released from jail on the Kidnapping Charges.
On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, Detectives from The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Wayne Police Department, and Clifton Police Department executed multiple search warrants at the residence and business of Mr Mashalk. Mr. Mashal was arrested without incident outside his business in Clifton, NJ, and a search of Mr. Mashal's business revealed suspected Controlled Dangerous Substance.
Mr. Mashal was Formally Charged with One Count of Third Degree Witness or Informant Taking a Bribe; and One Count of Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
