Paterson New Jersey Woman Pleads Guilty

PATERSON NEW JERSEY WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO AGGRAVATED ARSON IN CONNECTION TO THE AUGUST 3, 2020 FIRE IN PATERSON

     " Yanit Valdez Of Paterson, New Jersey Pleads Guilty In Connection With A Paterson, New Jersey Fire That Injured 4 Fireman & Displaced 60 Residents."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Friday, August 27, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that a Paterson, New Jersey woman has Pled Guilty to Aggravated Arson in connection with the August 3, 2020 Fire in Paterson, New Jersey.


     Yanit Valdez Pled Guilty today to Second Degree Aggravated Arson, before The Honorable Sohail Mohammed, P.J.Cr. In exchange for her guilty plea, The State will be recommending Six Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act, and Three Years of Parole supervision upon her release.



     Ms. Valdez admitted under oath that on August 3, 2020, she started a fire in the building located at 40 Cianci Street, in Paterson, New Jersey knowingly placing the occupants in Danger of Death or Bodily Injury. She also admitted that this fire thereafter spread to numerous adjacent buildings, including those located at 42 Cianci Street, 38 Cianci Street, 34 Cianci Street, and 35 Passaic Street.


     Ms. Valdez’s sentencing has been scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2021 before The Honorable Sohail Mohammed, P.J.Cr. The State is represented by Senior Assistant Prosecutor Julie Serfess, and Ms. Valdez is represented by Emily Schwartz, Esq.
