PATERSON NEW JERSEY MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER AND AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A SEVENTEEN MONTH OLD CHILD

PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, August 18, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that a Grand Jury Sitting in Passaic County, New Jersey has returned an indictment against James Davis, 46, of Paterson, New Jersey on Charges of Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Grand Jury in the same indictment Charged Qunasia Coleman, 30, of Paterson, New Jersey with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The Passaic County Grand Jury returned the indictment on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Charging Mr. Davis with Sexual Offenses that led to the Death of a Child that took place in a residence in Paterson, New Jersey on November 7, 2020, when the child was 17 Months Old. Mr. Davis was indicted on One Count of First Degree Murder; One Count of First Degree Felony Murder; First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; and One Count of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Ms. Coleman was indicted on One Count of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The sentencing exposure on First Degree Murder and Felony Murder where the victim is under the age of eighteen is Life Imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison without parole; on First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault where the victim is under the age of thirteen is Twenty-Five Years to Life in New Jersey State Prison, subject to a Twenty- Five Year parole disqualifier pursuant to The Jessica Lunsford Act; on Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison., Mr. Davis and Ms. Coleman are subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration requirements.
Mr. Davis is currently incarcerated in The Passaic County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey pending the adjudication of the charges against him. Ms. Coleman has been released pending the adjudication of the charge against her. An arraignment will be scheduled for next month in State Superior Court.
