NORTH ARLINGTON NEW JERSEY MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL

WOODLAND PARK, NJ.- On Friday, August 20, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced the arrest of David Romero, 34, of North Arlington, New Jersey. Mr. Romero was arrested in Woodland Park, New Jersey on Friday, August 20, 2021 after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Mr. Romero is charged with One Count of Second Degree Sexual Assault; One Count of Second Degree Attempted Sexual Assault; and One Count of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
On Monday, June 28, 2021, The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received a report of a 15-year-old child who disclosed being sexual assaulted by Mr. Romero. The child disclosed being assaulted by Mr. Romero at their residence in Woodland Park, New Jersey. During the investigation, Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses resulting in Mr. Romero’s arrest.
The sentencing exposure on Second Degree Sexual Assault and Second Degree Attempted Sexual Assault is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act; and on Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Mr. Romero be detained in the Passaic County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey pending the resolution of the case. The detention motion will be scheduled before a Superior Court Judge next week.
