Two Men Indicted In Burlington County, New Jersey

TWO MEN HAVE BEEN INDICTED ON MURDER CHARGES FOR THE JANUARY, 2021 DOUBLE FATAL SHOOTING IN EDGEWATER PARK, NEW JERSEY

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- On Thursday, July 22, 2021 Burlington County Scott A. Coffina announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey, has returned an indictment against two men in connection with the fatal shooting of two individuals attending a party in Edgewater Park, New Jersey.



     The Grand Jury has charged David Armstrong, 34, of Willingboro, New Jersey and Ronny Paden, 27, of Delran, New Jersey with First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Paden was indicted on a additional charge of Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.



     The indictment was returned on Thursday, July 22, 2021, and signed by Burlington Prosecutor Scott Coffina, an arraignment will be scheduled in the upcoming weeks in Superior Court. Paden was arrested in May, and Armstrong surrendered himself last month. Both defendants have been jailed since being taken into custody.


     The investigation began after Police were called to a home in the 200 Block of Dogwood Road in Edgewater Park, New Jersey, just before 1:00 a.m. on January 24, 2021. Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered the bodies of James Gist,III, 29, of Westhampton, New Jersey, and Marcus Thompson, 29, of Willingboro, New Jersey.


     Several people had gathered at a house to celebrate a birthday. Gist was shot while inside the driver's seat of a parked vehicle, while Thompson was struck inside the residence. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene. No other individuals at the party were struck by gunfire. The ensuing investigation revealed that neither victim was the intended target.
