A PASSAIC COUNTY GRAND JURY HAS RETURNED AN INDICTMENT AGAINST A 27-YEAR-OLD PATERSON MAN ON ARSON OFFENCES

PATERSON, NJ.- On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that Reshawn Evans, 27, of Paterson, New Jersey, has been indicted by a Grand Jury sitting in Passaic County, in relation to a fire investigation that occurred at The Bank of America, located at 190 Main Street, in Paterson, New Jersey on April 26, 2021.
A Passaic County Grand Jury has returned an Indictment, charging Mr. Evans with Second Degree Aggravated Arson; Second Degree Aggravated Arson; and Fourth Degree Risking Widespread Injury or Damage.
The sentencing exposure on Second Degree Aggravated Arson is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison, on Second Degree Aggravated Arson N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1(a)1 is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with a 85% term of service before Parole Eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act, on Fourth Degree Risking Widespread Injury or Damage is up to Eighteen Months in New Jersey State Prison.
A Superior Court Judge previously granted The State's Motion for Pretrial Detention of Mr. Evans, who is currently detained in The Passaic County Jail pending the adjudication of the case. Evans will be scheduled for Arraignment in the near future before a Superior Court Judge.
