LOS ANGELES, CA.- A Judge heard arguments from the defense team of Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, trying to dismiss some of the new eleven cases against him. Weinstein was indicted last March on sex related counts, which involved five women that allegedly occurred between 2004 and 2013 in Los Angeles, California.
Weinstein's defense team argued that three of the criminal charges do not appear to fall within the applicable statute of limitations. On a technicality, one of the charges has been thrown out, though the prosecution is expected refile the charge against him. Mark Werksman, one of Weinstein's attorneys, believes Weinstein will be acquitted, if he receives a fair trial.
Weinstein was extradited from a New York State Prison on July 20, 2021, where he is serving a Twenty-Three Prison Sentence for raping an aspiring actress and forcing oral sex on a former film production assistant, to California to face more charges.
The 69-Year-Old Weinstein plead not guilty to eleven counts of Sexual Assault. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney, Weinstein if convicted on all of the counts against him faces 140 Years to Life in California State Prison.
What ahead, whether Weinstein is acquitted or not on the California Charges, Weinstein's future seems certain. Upon proceedings in California, he will be returned to New York to finish his sentence. Even if Weinstein is granted parole on the New York charges, Weinstein will be well into his late 80's when he is released.
