A WEEHAWKEN MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED & CHARGED IN THE MURDER OF HIS GIRLFRIEND

WEEHAWKEN, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced on Sunday, June 20, 2021, The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and The Hudson County Regional SWAT Team arrested a 22-year-old Weehawken man in connection with the death of his 24-year-old girlfriend on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
Joseph Palacios 22, of Weehawken, New Jersey was arrested just before 10:00 p.m. after he barricaded himself in an apartment of a family member, located at 112 33rd Street Union City, New Jersey, threatening to harm himself.
Palacios has been charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon (Knife) for Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife).
On Saturday, June 19, 2021 at approximately 6:00 p.m. The Weehawken Police department responded to a Medical Emergency at 561 Hudson Avenue Apartment #1 Weehawken, New Jersey. Upon entry to the apartment, Police Officers discovered a female, later identified as Michelle Paola Castillo Siguencia, in an apparent lifeless condition in the bathroom. She was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of The Regional Medical Examiner.
While Weehawken Police were on the scene, they received reports that Palacios, the suspect in the Homicide, had barricaded himself in an apartment of a family member in Union City, New Jersey. The Hudson County Regional SWAT Team was activated, upon entry to the home Palacios was taken into custody and transported to The Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of self-inflicted wounds.
Hudson County Prosecutor Suarez credited The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, The Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, The Weehawken Police Department, and The Union City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, Which States: The Charges Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
