LEONIA, NJ.- Neighbors were awakened by gunfire in the early morning hours on Wednesday, June 16th, at approximately 3:45 a.m. gunfire erupted in an apartment complex located in Leonia, New Jersey, between Agents and a Philadelphia Kidnapping Suspect.
FBI Agents from the Newark and Philadelphia Field Offices reported that a Kidnapping investigation led them to The Lakeview Apartment Complex on Lakeview Avenue off of Grand Avenue in Leonia, New Jersey.
Residents of the complex reported hearing Agents ordering the suspect to come out with their hands up, moments later multiple shots rang out, killing the suspect.
The suspect, about whom no other details were immediately available, was believed to have been armed when Agents opened fire, sources reported.
The Kidnapped victim was recovered safely, it wasn't clear if the victim was found in the apartment where the confrontation took place.
The FBI said in a statement there are no ongoing threats to the community and further information will be released as it becomes available.
