Arrests Made In June 16th Stabbing

 ARRESTS MADE IN JUNE 16th STABBING IN PATERSON NEW JERSEY

     " Two Paterson Residents Have Been Arrested In Connection With Paterson Stabbing Incident On Wednesday Evening."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Thursday, June 17, 2021, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based on an investigation by The Paterson Police Department, Jamal Culver, 30, from Paterson, New Jersey and Victor Lopez, 60, from Paterson, New Jersey, were arrested in connection to a stabbing investigation that took place June 16, 2021, in the area of Main Street and Grand Street in Paterson.



     Jamal Culver is charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for a Unlawful Purpose; Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute; and Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute Within a 1000 Feet of School Property. Victor Lopez has been charged with Third Degree Aggravated Assault.



     On June 16, 2021, at approximately 6:50 p.m., members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Main and Grand Streets, after receiving a report of an assault, however upon arrival Officers were unable to locate a victim at the scene. Police Officers were later notified that a 30-year-old male Paterson resident arrived at Saint Joseph's University Medical Center seeking treatment for non-life threatening stabbing injuries. A crime scene was established in the area of Main and Grand Streets.


     Base on the investigation, it was determined that the victim was assaulted by a group of individuals in the area of Main and Grand Streets. Jamal Culver was identified as the suspect who stabbed the victim and Victor Lopez was identified as a participant in the assault. At approximately 8:45 p.m. members of The Paterson Police Department arrested Jamal Culver and Victor Lopez in the area where the assault took place, Jamal Culver was in possession of ten bags of Crack Cocaine when he was arrested.


     The sentencing exposure for Jamal Culver on First Degree Attempted Murder is 10-20 Years in New Jersey State Prison, with a 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act, on Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose is 3-5 Years in New Jersey State Prison; on Fourth Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose is up to 18 Months in New Jersey State Prison; on Third Degree Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute is 3-5 Years in New Jersey State Prison; and on Third Degree Possession of CDS with an Intent to Distribute Within 1000 Feet of School Property is 3-5 Years in New Jersey State Prison. 


     The sentencing exposure for Victor Lopez on Third Degree Aggravated Assault is 3-5 Years in New Jersey State Prison.


     The State intents to file a motion for pretrial detention for Jamal Culver that will be heard before a Superior Court Judge. Victor Lopez was seen at Central Judicial Processing Court on Thursday June 17th and was released on conditions, Lopez's charges were referred to a Passaic County Grand Jury.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, Which States: The Charges Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
