AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE IN CONNECTION TO HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

EAST ORANGE, NJ.- On Monday, June 28, 2021, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi announced that base on an investigation by The Paterson Police Department in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Charles A. Richardson, 34, of Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested on Sunday, June 27, 2021, in relation to The Homicide Investigation that took place June 20, 2021 in the area of 434 10th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Richardson has been Charged with First Degree Murder.
On Sunday, June 20, 2021, at approximately 2:41 p.m., members of The Paterson Police Department responded to 434 10th Avenue in Paterson in response to a report of an Assault.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located Tremaine Thomas, 43, of Paterson, New Jersey lying in the store with Blunt Force Injuries.
Paterson Fire Department Personnel arrived on scene and treated Mr. Thomas, who was transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center, in Paterson, New Jersey. A short time later, Mr. Thomas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
An investigation revealed that Mr. Richardson was the individual responsible for the murder of Mr. Thomas. Mr. Richardson was subsequently charged, and an arrest warrant was issued. Mr. Richardson was arrested on June 27, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., without incident, by The East Orange Police Department following a motor vehicle stop.
The State has filed a Motion for Pretrial Detention which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
