PATERSON, NJ.- A 68-year-old Paterson woman was hospitalized after being struck by gunfire early Saturday afternoon in the city’s downtown area, authorities said.


     Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-in-Charge Patrick Murray announced that at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2026, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Market Street and Main Street in the City.



     Upon arrival, officers located a 68-year-old female victim, a resident of Paterson, who was suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound, authorities said. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries. Her condition was not immediately disclosed, but officials confirmed that the wound was not life-threatening.


     Investigators from the Paterson Police Department secured and processed a potential crime scene in the vicinity during the initial response. No arrests have been reported, and authorities have not released information regarding a suspect description or a possible motive for the shooting.


     The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and that additional details will be released as they become available.


Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
