Yesterday, 21-Year-Old Union City Man Apprehended In Florida On Murder Charges In Jersey City Shooting

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- A 21-year-old Union City, New Jersey man wanted in connection with a triple shooting that occurred in Jersey City that left a 25-year-old Jersey City dead and two others injured from gunshot wounds back in April, was taken into custody yesterday in Kissimmee, Florida.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Freddie Castro, 21, of Union City, New Jersey, is charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and two counts of Aggravated Assault.
On Thursday, July 11, 2024, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Division, in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Castro will be detained in the Osceola Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
According to Police, on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting multiple gunshots in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street in the Heights section of Jersey City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found two victims having sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims were immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, New Jersey, succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased 30 minutes later. A 30-year-old Jersey City woman was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and released. A 24-year-old Jersey City man drove himself to University Hospital in Newark and was treated for a gunshot wound and has since been released.
Following an investigation, two other suspects were previously arrested and charged. Darren Esteves, 20, of Jersey City, New Jersey, is charged with Murder; Conspiracy, Weapons, and Aggravated Assault Offenses and is presently being held in Orange County Corrections Department following being taken into custody on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.
Also charged in the shooting is 23-year-old Aaliyah Rivera of Jersey City, New Jersey, who is facing charges of Accomplice to Murder and Conspiracy. She was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, and is currently being detained in the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
