15-Year-Old Trenton Boy Arrested Yesterday In Norfolk, Virginia For The July 9th Shooting Death Of Trenton Man

TRENTON, NJ.- On Wednesday, the United States Marshals Service apprehended a 15-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, boy in Norfolk, Virginia, wanted in connection with the July 9, 2024, early morning shooting death of 47-year-old Luis Torres Marrero of Trenton, Jersey.
According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, the teen is charged with one count of first-degree Murder; one count of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The boy was arrested incident on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The arrest is a result of an investigation conducted by Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Shooting Response Team that began on July 9, 2024, when, at approximately 12:25 a.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a sick or injured person on the 200 Block of East Hanover Street in the City of Trenton.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Luis Torres Marrero, 47, of Trenton, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to his head. Mr. Torres Marrero was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. Despite fighting for his life, Mr. Torres Marrero tragically succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased on July 14, 2024.
A swift-moving investigation by Detectives were able to identify the Trenton teen as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Torres Marrero, and a warrant was issued for the teen's arrest.
After being apprehended yesterday, the teen will remain detained in Virginia pending extradition to New Jersey to stand trial on the charges.
