Two Off-Duty Police Officers & Accomplice Charged With Threats, Weapons, & Burglary Offenses

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Following a months-long investigation, on Thursday, three men, including two Jersey City Police Officers, were taken into custody and charged in connection with the January 28, 2024, Burglary of a Jersey City, New Jersey building, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

     On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Internal Affairs Unit formally charged Mario Albero, 45, with Possession of a Weapon (baseball bat) for an Unlawful Purpose; Burglary; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (baseball bat). 

     Adrian Tejada, 28, and Robert Nunez, 41, were each charged with three counts of Terroristic Threats; and Burglary.

     All three men were arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City, New Jersey. They were processed on the charges and released pending their first appearance in Hudson County Central Judicial Processing Court. Tejada and Nunez were actively employed with the Jersey City Police Department at the time but were off duty during the burglary.

     The investigation uncovered that on Sunday, January 28, 2024, Albero, Tejada, and Nunez entered a "private structure" located on Zabriskie Street in Jersey City, and threatened to harm multiple individuals inside the structure.

"The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
