JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Last Friday, a 32-year-old Jefferson Township, New Jersey man was sentenced to 23 years in New Jersey State Prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child under 13 years old for over two years and a narcotics and weapons offense.

According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, on January 17, 2024, Michael Figueroa, 32, of Jefferson Township, New Jersey appeared in Morris County Superior Court and entered a guilty plea to one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; and one count of third-degree Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

On Friday, May 31, 2024, Figueroa appeared before the Honorable Ralph Amirata, J.S.C., and was sentenced to a term of 23 years in New Jersey State Prison. Judge Amirata ordered Figueroa to serve the entire 23 years of incarceration, and the last 7 years of the custodial sentence will be served at Avenel Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, for repetitive sex offenders. Judge Amirata, further ordered that Figueroa will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law Registration requirements, and will be on parole supervision for life.

The guilty plea and the sentence stem from a narcotics investigation last year that led investigators to obtain a court-authorized search warrant for Figueroa's residence. During the search Detectives uncovered and seized multiple handguns, a pump action rifle, 11 bricks of suspected heroin, that weighed less than one-half ounce, a bag containing less than one-half ounce of cocaine, ammunition, and a digital scale. Following the search Figueroa was taken into custody.

Following his arrest, investigators discovered images depicting sexual abuse of a child under 13 years of age on Figueroa's smartphone. The sexual abuse of the child occurred over the course of two years at Figueroa's Jefferson Township residence. Investigators also found additional digital images of child sexual abuse material on his phone. On May 1, 2023, additional charges were filed concerning the material found on his phone.

Figueroa has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility since his April 2023 arrest.
