33-Year-Old Man Charged For Strangling Preteen Child Unconscious & Attempting To Rape The Child

FAIRVIEW, NJ.- Yesterday, a 33-year-old Ridgefield, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with the alleged attempted murder and attempted sexual assault of a preteen in Fairview, New Jersey.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Monday, June 10, 2024, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit regarding a child under the age of thirteen who was allegedly attacked in Fairview, New Jersey.
A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Fairview Police Department quickly determined that Julio Amaro-Vasquez, 33, of Ridgefield, New Jersey, strangled a preteen child, to the point of unconsciousness, before attempting to sexually assault the child.
Following the investigation Amaro-Vasquez was taken into custody in Fairview, New Jersey, and formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Attempted Aggravated Assault; second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Attempted Sexual Assault by Contact; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Amaro-Vasquez was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
