UPDATE: 19-Year-Old Kent, Washington Man Has Been Formally Charged In Wednesday's Carteret Fatal Shooting

CARTERET, NJ.- Yesterday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone reported, that a 19-year-old Kent, Washington man who was taken into custody on Wednesday, hours after fatally shooting a woman and critically injuring another woman was formally charged in Wednesday's Carteret shooting.
According to authorities, Guarav Gill, 19, of Kent, Washington was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; one count of first-degree Attempted Murder; two counts of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; one count of second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and one count of fourth-degree Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine.
Gill was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, when just shortly before 9:30 a.m., members of the Carteret Police Department responded to an area of Roosevelt Avenue in Carteret following receiving a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found two female victims, who had both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. One of the victims, Jasvir Kaur, 29, of Carteret, New Jersey, tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later. The other victim, a 20-year-old Carteret, New Jersey woman remains hospitalized at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, and is listed in critical condition.
The initial investigation by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Detective Javier Morillo was able to identify Gill as the suspect, who remained at large in the area until he was located nearby and was taken into custody by Middlesex County authorities later Wednesday afternoon.
"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
