Lakewood Township Pedestrian Hit & Run Investigation

Ocean County Authorities Are Searching For The Motor Vehicle That Ran Down A Man Early This Morning & The Fled

LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ.- The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Lakewood Township Police Department are continuing to locate the motor vehicle and the driver that ran down a man early this morning while he was crossing in the crosswalk at an intersection, leaving the man seriously injured in the roadway.


     According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at just around 12:30 p.m., members of the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 9 and First Street in the Township, following receiving a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle that fled the scene.



     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man in the roadway suffering from serious injuries from being struck. The man was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. The man's condition is unknown at this time.


     During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that a white four-door sedan traveling northbound on Route 9 when it struck the man who was attempting to cross Route 9 in a marked crosswalk. After striking the man the sedan continued traveling north on Route 9.
