MAYS LANDING, NJ.- On Monday, a 30-year-old Voorhees, New Jersey man was taken into custody and formally charged with causing a motor vehicle crash on Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township on April 3, 2024, that tragically claimed the life of a 29-year-old mother of a baby girl.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, following an investigation, on Monday, April 22, 2024, Stephen Sirch, 30, of Voorhees, New Jersey was taken into custody and formally charged with second-degree Vehicular Homicide. Following being processed on the charge Sirch was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court.

The charge stems from an incident when on April 3, 2024, at just around 2:15 p.m., members of the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Black Horse Pike in the Township.

The initial investigation determined that Sirch's vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Karina E. Castillo, 29, of Clementon, New Jersey. Ms. Castillo was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An ensuing investigation by members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department revealed that Sirch was traveling at a high rate of speed causing the crash, which led to the charge being filed.

Castillo, who was employed as a Social Worker for the New Jersey State's Division of Child Protection and Permanency, leaves behind a baby daughter and a husband, her obituary stated.

"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
