Trenton Man Charged In April 4, 2024 Triple Shooting

     "Kareem Pygum Charged With Murder & Aggravated Assault In Connection With The April 4, 2024, Shooting Homicide In Trenton."

TRENTON, NJ.- A 43-Year-Old Trenton, New Jersey man was Taken into Custody on Wednesday and Formally Charged in connection with a Shooting in New Jersey's Capital City that Killed a 46-Year-Old Trenton, New Jersey Man and injured a Man and a Woman.



     According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, Members of The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and The Trenton Police Department, Formally Charged Kareem Pygum, 43, of Trenton, New Jersey, with One Count of First Degree Murder; One Count of First Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; and Three Second Degree Weapons Offenses.


     Pygum was Taken into Custody on Hudson Street in Trenton and Processed on The Charges. During Pygums Arrest he was to be in Possession of Crack Cocaine and a .38 Caliber Revolver. Following being Processed on The Charges Pygum was Remanded to The Mercer County Correctional Center pending Future Court Proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court.


     The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Pygum Detained pending the resolution of The Charges Filed Against him.


     The Charges stem from an incident, when on April 4, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Members of The Trenton Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Shooting in Progress on The 500 Block of North Clinton Avenue in The City of Trenton. 


     Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered Two Gunshot Victims, a man who had sustained a Gunshot Wound to The Head and a Woman who had sustained a Gunshot Wound to The Shoulder. The Two were immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for Treatment. The man, identified as Jose Alfredo Azcona Garcia, 46, of Trenton, New Jersey remained Hospitalized until Tuesday, April 9, 2024, when he lost his battle to stay alive and was pronounced deceased.


     The Trenton Police Department later discovered a Third Man who sustained a Graze Wound to his Cheek during the Shooting.


     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
