40-Year-Old Jackson Township Man Charged With Injuring Two In Early Saturday Morning Crash

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 40-year-old Jackson Township, New Jersey man was jailed after being charged in connection with an early Saturday morning Toms River, New Jersey alcohol-related crash that injured two.
According to Ocean County Authorities, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at just around 4:45 a.m., members of the Toms River Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of Bay Avenue and Ethan Court in Toms River.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was being operated by Erick Perez-Ramirez, 40, of Jackson Township, New Jersey, who was traveling eastbound on Bay Avenue when he failed to negotiate a right-hand bend in the roadway. The pickup truck left the roadway and struck a tree.
As a result of striking the tree, Viviana Arciniegas-Diaz, 33, of Toms River, New Jersey, and Maria Vega-Diaz, 33, also of Toms River, New Jersey sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. As of Monday afternoon, Ms. Vega-Diaz and Ms. Arciniegas-Diaz were listed in stable condition.
A third passenger William Rubiano, 31, of Toms River, New Jersey, and Erick Perez-Ramirez were uninjured in the crash.
During the initial investigation, Police Officers noticed that Perez-Diaz appeared to be intoxicated. Based upon the Officers' observations, they attempted to administer a field sobriety test to Perez-Ramirez. When Perez-Ramirez failed to perform the field sobriety test he was placed under arrest and charged with Driving Under the Influence. Following being charged, Perez-Ramirez was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where a blood sample was taken pursuant to a court-authorized search warrant.
Following the blood sample being taken, Perez-Ramirez was charged with two counts of Assault by Auto and was transported to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court.
"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
