BREAKING: Howell Township, New Jersey Man Charged With Sex Crimes

     "Thomas R. Carraher Charged With Multiple Sex Crimes Against A Child."

FREEHOLD, NJ.- According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, a 26-Year-Old Howell Township, New Jersey, who is Employed as a Tinton Falls Elementary Teacher and a Basketball Coach in another Monmouth County Town was Charged with Soliciting a Sexual Act for Cash and Sending Sexually Explicit Media of Himself to an individual he thought was a 14-Year-Old Girl he met Online.


     Thomas R. Carraher, 26, of Howell Township, New Jersey was Formally Charged with Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Attempted Promotion of Obscene Material to a Minor; and Attempted Criminal Sexual Contact. 


     Following an investigation by Members of The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Internet Crimes Unit, Detectives determined that Mr. Carraher had used a Social Media App in an Attempt to Solicit a Sex Act and Sent a Graphic Image and Video of himself and then Attempted to Solicit a Graphic Image from a Person with whom he was Communicating. Mr. Carraher was Arrested without Incident on Thursday and then Lodged in The Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending Future Court Proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.


     Mr. Carraher is Employed as a Teacher at The Mahala F. Atchison Elementary School in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Also, he is Employed as a Basketball Coach for Shrewsbury Borough School District. According to The Prosecutor's Office, there is no indication that the Charges relate to any Student or Student-Athlete at either School.
