BREAKING: Arrest Made In September Fatal Hit & Run In Paterson, New Jersey

52-YEAR-OLD PATERSON MAN CHARGED FOR KILLING A TEEN AND INJURING ANOTHER AND FLEEING THE SCENE

     " Barrington Hewitt Of Paterson Has Been Charged With Death By Auto, Assault By Auto, & Leaving The Scene Of A Fatal Accident."

PATERSON, NJ.- Yesterday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported following an investigation by Members of The Paterson Police Department in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Barrington Hewitt, 52, of Paterson, New Jersey was Taken into Custody on Thursday, October 12, 2023, and Formally Charged in connection to the September 13, 2023, Early Morning Fatal Hit & Run in the area of 17th Avenue and East 33rd Street in Paterson, New Jersey.



     Accordingly, Mr. Hewitt has been Charged with One Count of Second Degree Death by Auto; Third Degree Assault by Auto; Second Degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death; Third Degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident; and Two Counts of Endangering an Injured Victim.


     The Charges are the result of when on September 13, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to a report of a Hit and Run in the area of 17th Avenue and East 33rd Street in Paterson. Upon arrival, Police Officers located Three Juveniles who had been Struck by a Motor Vehicle. One of the Juveniles, a 17-Year-Old Girl was subsequently pronounced deceased. A Second Juvenile, a 16-Year-Old Boy sustained a Broken Foot. The Third Juvenile, a 16-Year-Old Boy, did not sustain any injuries.


     Mr. Hewitt is Currently being Detained in The Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey pending Future Court Proceedings.
