BREAKING: Garfield, New Jersey Man Charged

30-YEAR-OLD GARFIELD MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH THE FATAL OVERDOSE OF A MAN

     " Juhaan Hammond Was Charged On Thursday For Selling Illicit Narcotics To A Man That Died After Taking Counterfeit Pills."

GARFIELD, NJ.- Yesterday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported that a 30-Year-Old Garfield, New Jersey man was Arrested and Charged with causing the Fatal Overdose of of a Garfield man after selling him Fentanyl Lased Counterfeit Oxycodone Pills.


     On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at approximately 6:41 p.m., Members of The Garfield Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Drug Overdose of Two Individuals located on Lincoln Place in Garfield, New Jersey. Upon arrival, Police Officers located two People in the area of 249 Lincoln Place, Unresponsive from an apparent Overdose.


     Both People were administered Narcan and immediately transported to a Local Hospital, where one of the individuals, later identified as Ivan Santiago, 30, of Garfield, New Jersey was pronounced deceased. 


     Detectives of The Bergen County Narcotics Task Force and The Garfield Police Department launched an investigation into the Death of Mr. Santiago and related Drug Activity. Detectives were able to Determine that Juhaan Hammond, 30, of Garfield, New Jersey sold The Fatal Overdose to Mr. Santiago, which led to his Death.


     Accordingly, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, Mr. Hammond was Arrested in Garfield, New Jersey, and Formally Charged with One Count of First Degree Strict Liability in a Drug-Induced Death; Third Degree Distribution of Counterfeit Oxycodone Pills Containing Fentanyl; Third Degree of a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 1000 Feet of School Property; Third Degree Possession of Amphetamine; and Fourth Degree Distribution of Counterfeit Oxycodone.


     Mr. Hammond was Processed on The Charges and Remanded to The Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey pending Future Court Proceedings.
