BREAKING: Asbury Park, New Jersey Woman Sentenced To Prison

27-YEAR-OLD WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF HER 2-YEAR-OLD SON

     " Quanique Smith Was Sentenced To Prison For Allowing Her Son To Ingest Fentanyl, Leading To His Death."

FREEHOLD, NJ.- Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported that a 27-Year-Old Asbury Park, New Jersey woman has been Sentenced to a Term of Eight Years in New Jersey State Prison for being responsible for The Overdose Death of her 2-Year-Old Son in early January 2023.


     In accordance with the Sentence handed down by Monmouth County State Superior Court Judge Marc C. Lemieux, Quanique Smith, 27, of Asbury Park, New Jersey, will be required to Serve Eighty-Five Percent of The Eight Year Sentence before becoming Eligible for Parole pursuant to The No Early Release Act.


     On Thursday, January 5, 2023, Members of The Asbury Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an Unresponsive Child inside an Apartment located on The 100 Block of Langford Street. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 2-Year-Old Boy Unresponsive. The Child was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.


     A subsequent investigation by Detectives from The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and The Asbury Park Police Department determined that Quantities of Heroin and Fentanyl belonging to Ms. Smith had been left in the Family's Home and were in Reach of Smith's 2-Year-Old Son and his 5-Year-Old Sibling. The 2-Year-Old Boy ingested the Drugs that directly caused his Death. 


     Ms. Smith was Arrested later on the same day and was Remanded to The Monmouth County Correctional Institution where she has remained. In May, Ms. Smith Pleaded Guilty to a Charge of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter, In which Ms.Smith would be Sentenced as Second Degree Offender. Ms. Smith will now be transferred to The New Jersey Department of Corrections to begin her Sentence.
