NEWARK, NJ.- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported that Detectives of The Essex County Homicide Task Force are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sunday's late afternoon Shooting Death of a Newark man in the parking lot of Springfield Avenue Business.
On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 5:53 p.m., Members of The Newark Police Department responded to The 300 Block of Springfield Avenue in Newark on a report of a Shooting.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Lorenzo Boykins, 52, of Newark, New Jersey, outside in the Parking Lot of a Local Business suffering from Multiple Gunshot Wounds. Mr. Boykins was immediately transported to University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.
