BREAKING: Two Charged In Union City, New Jersey Fatal Crash

MOTHER AND SON CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL CRASH THAT KILLED A CITY WORKER

     " A Union City Mother & 16-Year-Old Son Have Been Charged In A Crash The Killed A Union City Public Works Employee On June 5, 2023."

UNION CITY, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported that on Friday, June 23, 2023, a 37-Year-Old Union City, New Jersey Mother, and her 16-Year-Old Son have been Charged in connection with a Fatal Collision that Claimed the Life of a 73-Year-Old Union City Public Works Employee that occurred earlier this month in Union City, New Jersey.


     The Two were Arrested on Friday at The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Secaucus, New Jersey. The 16-Year-Old Union City Boy was Charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in a Death; and Causing Death While Driving Unlicensed. The Boy's Mother, a 37-Year-Old Union City Woman was Charged with Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution; and False Reporting to a Law Enforcement Officer. 


     The Mother and her Son were Processed on The Charges and released on a Complaint Summons pending their First Appearance in Hudson County Central Judicial Processing Court. 


     On Monday, June 5, 2023, at approximately 7:36 a.m., Members of The Union City Police Department responded to the area of Palisade Avenue and 36th Street in Union City after being notified that a Pedestrian had been Struck by a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Fortunato Rojas-Solis, 73, of Union City, New Jersey, suffering from Life-Threatening Injuries. Mr. Rojas-Solis was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at 5:15 p.m.


     The ensuing investigation by Members of The Hudson County Regional Collision Unit determined that Mr. Rojas-Solis was Struck by a Dodge Durango that was being operated by the 16-Year-Old Boy. Mr. Rojas-Solis was Struck while working in his capacity as a Union City Public Works Employee.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, That States: The Charges Outlined In This Publication Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
