BREAKING: Passaic New Jersey Man Charged

PASSAIC MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING A MAY 10, 2023 OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

     " Jason Urban Has Been Charged After A May 10th, Incident Where He Pointed A Gun At A Passaic Police Officer."

PASSAIC, NJ.- Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that following a Police-Involved Shooting investigation, The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has formally Charged a 42-Year-Old Passaic, New Jersey man with Multiple Weapons and Assault Offenses.


     On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, just before 6:30 p.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call in the area of Lackawanna Place and Passaic Avenue on a report of a man brandishing a Gun.



     Upon arrival, Police Officers encountered Jason Urban, 42, of Passaic, with a Firearm in his hand. Mr. Urban fired multiple rounds into the air. When Police Officers told Mr. Urban to Drop the Weapon, Urban turned and Pointed a .44 Caliber Handgun at a Police Officer. A second Police Officer Fired his Service Weapon, Striking Mr. Urban. Accordingly, Mr. Urban was Taken into Custody and transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment.


     Following an investigation, Pursuant to The New Jersey Office of The Attorney General, Directive 2019-4, The Attorney General's Office was notified and The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office was appointed as The Independent Investigator.


     The investigation determined that the Gun used by Mr. Urban, a Smith and Wesson .44 Caliber Magnum Handgun was reported to be Stolen out of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and that Passiac Police Officers acted properly while confronting Mr. Urban.


     Mr. Urban has been Charged on a Warrant Complaint with One Count of Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Secon Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; One Count of Third Degree Receiving Stolen Property; One Count of Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault; and Second Degree Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons.


     After being released from the hospital, Mr. Urban was transported to The Passaic County Jail, pending his First Appearance. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Urban detained Pending the resolution of the Charges Filed against him. A Court Hearing has been Scheduled for May 19, 2023, in Passaic County State Superior Court.
