TWO NEWARK MEN CHARGED IN THE BERGEN COUNTY ARMED HOME INVASION ROBBERY

CRESSKILL, NJ.- On Monday, March 13, 2023, Bergen County Authorities reported that James Lanier, 24, and Carlos Sanchez, 24, both from Newark, New Jersey, both currently Incarcerated at The Monmouth County Correctional Institution have both been Charged in connection to an Armed Home Invasion Robbery in Cresskill, New Jersey.
On Sunday, September 25, 2022, at approximately 11:07 a.m., Members of The Cresskill Police Department to a residence located on Kennedy Drive in Cresskill on a report of an Armed Home Invasion Robbery. Detectives of The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigation Squad and Detectives of The Cresskill Police Department initiated a joint investigation.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives quickly determined that a Victim who was home at the time of the incident was held at Gunpoint in the home for a substantial period of time. During that time several items were stolen from the home. The vehicle was used during the Armed Home Invasion Robbery was determined to have been Stolen several days earlier from another New Jersey Community, and was used to commit several other Crimes, including an Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft and a Burglary on Inness Road in Tenafly, New Jersey on September 24, 2022.
During a Six Month investigation, Detectives identified Mr. Lanier and Mr. Sanchez as Suspects and the individuals responsible for the Robbery.
On Friday, March 10, 2023, Members of The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office served Mr. Lanier and Mr. Sanchez with Criminal Complaints at The Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where they are being Detained on other unrelated Charges.
Both men were Charged with First Degree Kidnapping; First Degree Armed Robbery; Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Third Degree Theft of Movable Property; Two Counts of Second Degree Receiving Stolen Property; Three Counts of Third Degree Burglary to a Motor Vehicle; and Second Degree Armed Burglary.
