On June 11, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Members of The Lakewood Township Police Department responded to the area of Lanes Mills Road in The Township on a report of a serious motor crash. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a Three Vehicle Crash.

A subsequent investigation conducted by Members of The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Vehicular Homicide Unit in conjunction with Detectives from The Lakewood Township Police Department and assistance from The Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit determined that Mr. Pam had been operating a 2021 Ford Van in the far southbound right lane of Lanes Mills Road, when Mr. Pam struck a 2019 Honda CRV being operated by John Arendt, 73, of Brick. The force of the crash caused Mr. Arendt's vehicle into the northbound lanes of Lanes Mills Road where he struck a 2012 Ford Mustang being operated by Sean Avon.

Mr. Avon sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to Ocean Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.

Mr. Arendt was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey where he was treated for his injuries and released. Mr. Pam did not require medical attention.

Further investigation by authorities uncovered that Mr. Pam and Mr. Arendt were involved in a verbal altercation prior to the crash, and the altercation led to the crash.

On June 12, 2021, Mr. Pam was Arrested and formally Charged, Pam was processed on the Offenses and lodged in The Ocean County Jail. Mr. Pam was released pursuant to The New Jersey Bail Reform Conditions.
