Fatal Pedestrian Accident Investigation

HUDSON COUNTY REGIONAL COLLISION UNIT INVESTIGATING THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH IN JERSEY CITY NEW JERSEY

     " Wednesday Night's Fatal Pedestrian Crash On Route 440 Jersey City Is Under Active Investigation."

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Thursday, November 4, 2021 Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 740 Route 440 in Jersey City, New Jersey on a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. 



     Upon arrival, Police Officers found one pedestrian with life-threatening injuries in the northbound lane of Route 440. 


     The vehicle that had struck the pedestrian had fled the scene.


     The pedestrian,  later identified as Phillip Delancy, 36, of Jersey City, New Jersey.  Mr. Delancy was immediately transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:25 p.m. 


     The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. 


     The events surrounding the crash are under investigation by The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from The Jersey City Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.
