36-YEAR-OLD BLACKWOOD MAN SENTENCED IN AN ATTEMPT TO MEET AN UNDERAGE GIRL FOR SEX

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- On Friday, November 19, 2021 Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a 36-Year-Old Blackwood man who Pled Guilty to attempting to meet an Underage Girl for Sex at a Bordentown Township, New Jersey Park last year has been Sentenced to Parole Supervision for Life and will also be placed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
Under an agreement with The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. McCann Pled Guilty in March to Third Degree Attempt to Commit Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Impairing or Debauching the Morals of a Child, in exchange for a Three-Year Sentence in New Jersey State Prison.
In addition to Parole Supervision for Life and Registration as a Sex Offender, The State argued at the Wednesday, November 17, 2021 Sentencing Hearing that Mr. McCann be sent to prison in accordance with the plea agreement, but The Honorable Philip E. Haines, J.S.C., decided to issue a Non-Custodial Sentence instead.
The investigation into Mr. McCann began in July 2020 after he used an instant messaging app to arrange a rendezvous and sent Pictures of his Genitals and Videos of himself Masturbating to someone he thought was a 13-Year-Old Girl. In reality, the person he was communicating with was a Special Agent with United States Homeland Security Investigations.
The investigation was conducted by United States Homeland Security Investigations – Cherry Hill Office, with assistance from The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Hi-Tech Crimes Unit, The Barrington Police Department, The Bordentown Township Police Department and The Cinnaminson Township Police Department.
