PERTH AMBOY MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO THE EARLY THURSDAY MORNING FATAL SHOOTING OF A UNION TOWNSHIP MAN

UNION, NJ.- On Friday, November 5, 2021 Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Union Township Police Chief announced that a Perth Amboy, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged in connection with a Fatal Shooting on Thursday in Union, New Jersey.
Shannon Assing, 24, of Perth Amboy, New Jersey has been formally Charged with One Count of First Degree Murder; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Burglary in the Shooting Death of Isaiah Spicer, 24, of Union Township, New Jersey.
On Thursday, November 4, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Members of The Union Township Police Department responded to the area of the 1200 Block of Coolidge Avenue in the Township on a report of a Shooting.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Spicer who sustained a Fatal Gunshot wound, and succumbed to his injury. Mr Spicer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An ensuing investigation led by The Union County Homicide Task Force in conjunction with The Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, The Union Township Police Department, and The Union County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit were able to identify Mr. Assing as the suspect responsible for Fatally Shooting Mr. Spicer.
Mr. Assing was taken into custody on Friday morning, November 5, 2021 without incident and lodged in The Union County Jail in Elizabeth, New Jersey pending a First Appearance and Detention Hearing in Union County Superior Court.
If convicted on the Charges, Mr. Assing potentially face Life in New Jersey State Prison.
