UPDATE IN THE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING SHOOTING IN PASSAIC NEW JERSEY

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Monday, October 4, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announce that at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2021, Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to the area of 3rd and Essex Streets in Passaic, New Jersey on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a potential crime scene and a 28-year-old Scarsdale, New York man who had been injured with what was originally believed to be a gunshot wound.
The ensuing investigation determined that the victim was involved in an altercation in the area of 3rd and Essex Street in Passaic when an unknown individual struck the victim over the head with a glass bottle. The victim then entered a motor vehicle, and an unknown individual fired a gun several times towards the vehicle, striking it three times. Shell casings were recovered from the area.
The victim was first transported to Saint Mary’s General Hospital in Passaic and was then transferred to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey where it was determined that the victim had not been shot, but suffered a laceration by the broken bottle.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information may become available once it is released by authorities.
