Plainfield New Jersey Man Charged With Murder

PLAINFIELD, NJ.- On Friday, September 10, 2021 Union County Prosecutor William A Daniel and Plainfield Police Department Officer in Charge David M. Guarino announced that a Plainfield, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged in connection with the Wednesday, September 8, 2021 Fatal Shooting of a Subcontracted Delivery Driver for Amazon.



     Quahif Lane, 26, of Plainfield, New Jersey has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, in connection with the death of Jamar S. Harris of Newark, New Jersey.


     On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Members of The Plainfield Police Department responded to The 200 Block of Garfield Avenue in Plainfield on a report of a Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Harris who had sustained a Fatal Gunshot Wound, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Ruppert, who will be prosecuting the case for The State. Mr Harris was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.


     Video surveillance that was obtained, revealed Mr. Harris being approached by Mr. Lane, with the Fatal Attack taking place just outside the delivery van.


     A joint investigation conducted by The Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by Members of The Plainfield Police Department, Union County Police Department and The Union County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit, lead to Mr. Lane being swiftly as the suspect in the case.


     Mr. Lane was taken into custody without incident, Thursday afternoon, and was lodged in The Union County Jail pending his First Appearance which has been scheduled for later today.


     " I commend all law enforcement agencies and concerned citizens whose contributions were essential to the expeditious apprehension of Mr. Lane," Prosecutor Daniel said. " Our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones."
