PATERSON NEW JERSEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO LEAVING THE SCENE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT LEFT A PERSON INJURED

PATERSON, NJ.- On Friday, August 6, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that Clinton Smith, Jr. entered a guilty plea in connection with the December 5, 2020, motor vehicle accident that left a 49-year-old Paterson, New Jersey pedestrian with serious injuries.
Mr. Smith pled guilty today to Third Degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, before The Honorable Sohail Mohammed, P.J.Cr.
Mr. Smith admitted under oath that on December 5, 2020, he struck a pedestrian while driving a motor vehicle near the intersection of 10th Avenue and East 23rd Street, in the City of Paterson. He also admitted that, after striking the pedestrian, he did not stop to render aid as required by law, and that the pedestrian, a 49-year-old man from Paterson, New Jersey, suffered serious bodily injury.
Pursuant to the terms of the plea agreement, the State will be recommending Mr. Smith be placed on a period of probation with a condition that he serve 364 days in the county jail. An October 1, 2021 sentence date has been set before the Honorable Sohail Mohammed, P.J.Cr.
