ALBANY, NY.- During a press conference today, August 10, 2021, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned as New York's Governor, amid a barrage of allegations of sexual harassment, just a year after he was hailed for his leadership during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
At 12:05 p.m. in a live televised press conference, Cuomo resigned as Governor effective on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
Cuomo's announcement comes just one week after New York Attorney General Letitia James released a 168-page report, which confirmed allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior while serving as Governor, against eleven women.
Today's announce comes justs minutes after his attorney Rita M. Glavin in a televised press conference refuted, evidence and testimony detailed in the Attorney General's report, in which seemed Glavin laying out the groundwork for an upcoming lengthy court battle.
Cuomo apologize to his accusers, but took no responsibility for his actions against the eleven women. He further Thanked New Yorkers for the opportunity of being Governor of New York.
" I think that given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside," Cuomo said from his Manhattan Office.
Under New York State Law, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul will assume the role Governor, becoming the first woman history to lead New York.
