Arrest Made In Sunday's Passaic Stabbing

AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE IN SUNDAY NIGHT STABBING IN PASSAIC NEW JERSEY

     " Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez Of Passaic, New Jersey Has Been Arrested & Charged In Connection With Sunday Night Stabbing Of A Paterson, New Jersey Resident."

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Monday, August 23, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced that based upon an investigation by the Passaic Police Department, Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez, 37, of Passaic, New Jersey, was arrested in relation to a stabbing incident that took place on Sunday, August 22, 2021, in the area of Passaic and 10th Streets in Passaic, New Jersey. 



     Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez is charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Third Degree Aggravated Assault; Four Counts of Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Third Degree Terroristic Threats; Four Counts of Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Two Counts of Fourth Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons; and Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.


     On Sunday, August 22, 2021, at approximately 6:09 p.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to the area of Passaic and 6th Streets on a report of a stabbing. 


     Upon arrival, Police Officers observed a 37-year-old male Paterson, New Jersey resident who was suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment. A potential crime scene was located in the area of Passaic Street and 10th Street.


     Based upon the ensuing investigation, Police determined that Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez had stabbed the victim multiple times while he was sitting in a parked motor vehicle near Passaic and 10th Streets in Passaic, New Jersey. After the stabbing, Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez threatened to kill a 36- year-old female resident of Passaic, New Jersey in the presence of a minor child. Shortly following the incident, Members of The Passaic Police Department located and arrested Reynaldo Naranjo-Rodriguez in the area of Passaic Street and 10th Street, in Passaic, New Jersey.


     Mr. Naranjo-Rodriguez if convicted on all charges will face the potential sentencing exposure, on First-Degree Attempted Murder is Ten to Twenty Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act and Five Years Parole Supervision upon release; on Second Degree Aggravated Assault it is Five to Ten Years New in Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before Parole Eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act and Three Years Parole Supervision upon release; on Third Degree Aggravated Assault it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison; on each count of Fourth Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison; on Third Degree Terroristic Threats it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison; on each count of Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is Eighteen Months in New Jersey State Prison; on each count of Fourth Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons it is Eighteen Months in New Jersey State Prison; and on Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is Five to Ten Years New Jersey State Prison.


     The State intends to file a motion for Pretrial Detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
