PASSAIC MAN IS NOW DETAINED UNTIL THE ADJUDICATION OF HIS CASE

PATERSON, NJ.- Today, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman, announced the Pretrial Detention of Larry Mayfield, 66, from Passaic, New Jersey. Mr. Mayfield was arrested on May 24, 2021, after an investigation conducted by The Passaic Police Department.
Mr. Mayfield is charged with One-Count of First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, and One-Count of Second Degree Sexual Assault.
On April 21, 2021, The Passaic Police Department responded to a Passaic residential address on a report of sexual assault. Passaic Police Detective Bureau conducted an investigation, which include interviews with multiple witnesses and the alleged victim, who reported being sexually assaulted by Mr. Mayfield in the evening hours of April 21st. The investigation culminated with the retrieval of surveillance video and other physical evidence.
The sentencing exposure on First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault is ten to twenty years in a New Jersey State Prison, with a 85% term of service before parole eligibility, pursuant to The No Early Release Act. On Second Degree Sexual Assault it is five to ten years in a New Jersey State Prison, with a 85% term of service before parole eligibility, pursuant to The No Early Release Act. Upon conviction and completion of potential sentence, Mr. Mayfield would be subject to the reporting and notification requirements of Megan's Law and parole supervision for life.
At a Detention Hearing, yesterday, June 2nd.,The Honorable Marybel Mercado-Ramirez, J.S.C., granted The States Motion for Pretrial Detention, of Mr. Mayfield.
" The Rules Of The Court Requires Us To Include A Statement, Which States: That The Charges Are Merely Accusations, And That The Defendant And Or Defendant's Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond A Reasonable Doubt."
