Man Charged With Assault By Auto

 GUTTENBERG MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT BY AUTO 

     " Christopher Macias Has Been Charged With Assault By Auto In Connection With June 8th Car Collision In Carlstadt."

CARLSTADT, NJ.- On Thursday, June 10, 2021, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Christopher Macias, 31, of Guttenberg, New Jersey on a charge of Assault by Auto. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, under the direction of Chief Jason Love, and The Carlstadt Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Berta.


     At approximately 12:50 p.m. on June 8, 2021, The Carlstadt Police Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Route 17 South and Hoboken Road. Responding Officers located a 2009 Mini Cooper which collided with the side of a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The collision occurred on the highway entrance ramp from Hoboken Road to Route 17 South. 



     The driver of the Mini Cooper, Christopher Macias, was uninjured and remained at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler, a 65-year-old resident of Montgomery, New York, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The ensuing investigation revealed that Macias was operating his vehicle on Route 17 South at a high rate of speed before attempting to navigate the exit ramp to Hoboken Road. Macias the lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median separating the exit and entrance ramp, and struck the Chrysler on the driver's door.


     As a result of the investigation, Christopher Macias was arrested on June 8, 2021 and charged with One Count of Fourth Degree Assault by Auto. In addition , he was served with a motor vehicle summonses for Reckless Driving, and Speeding. Macias is scheduled to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey on Monday June 2, 2021.


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, Which States: The Charges Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless Or Until Proven Guilty Beyond A Reasonable Doubt."
