JERUSALEM- Israeli Police Forces fired rubber bullets at Palestinians that were trying to disrupt a right-wing nationalist march in Jerusalem, while Hamas Militants launched incendiary balloons into Israel that triggered Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, increasing the specter of renewed violence in the region.
Israeli Military reported it carried out a limited series of airstrikes on Hamas Compounds and training camps across the Gaza Strip, this marks the first time that the rival forces traded blows since the May 21st cease fire agreement went into place, bringing an end to the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The incendiary balloons , which local firefighters said caused around 20 fires in Southern Israel, were sent as more than a thousand ultranationalist demonstrators bearing Israeli flags poured into Jerusalem's flashpoint Old City on Tuesday.
The United States and The United Nations called for restraint before the march, which the Government of the new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had authorized.
Israeli Police Forces deployed heavily, blocking roads and firing stun grenades and foam tipped bullets to remove Palestinians from the main route.
Medics reported 33 Palestinians were wounded, and Police said two officers were injured and 17 people were arrested.
Hamas had threatened reprisals over the march, which celebrated the anniversary of Jerusalem's re-unification after Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967 and annexed it, a move not recognized by most of the international community.
