A HAINESPORT MAN IS SENTENCED TO NEW JERSEY STATE PRISON

MOORESTOWN, NJ.- Today, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that an 80-year-old Hainesport man was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison for stealing more than $2.5 million over a 14-year period, from the Moorestown Company where he worked as an Account Manager.
The sentence was handed down May 21st to Charles Esposito in Burlington County Superior Court, in Mount Holly, New Jersey by The Honorable Christopher J. Garrenger, J.S.C. Esposito plead guilty in February, 2020 to Second Degree Theft By Deception, and Third Degree Failure To Pay Income Taxes.
As part of an agreement with The Prosecutor's Office, Esposito must make full restitution and file amended State Income Tax Returns.
Officials at the company, Oldcastle Building Envelope, began to investigate in April 2019 after concerns were raised about a handwritten check for $18,500. that had been signed by Esposito and contained another signature which appeared to be forged.
The ensuing investigation revealed that Esposito was able to circumvent the company's check issuance procedures, which allowed him to divert $2,537,655. in funds for his personal gain. He stands accused of conducting 243 fraudulent transactions between 2005 and April 2019.
" Theft of any kind is devastating to a company," Prosecutor Coffina said. " The Prosecutor's Office and our Law Enforcement Partners stand ready to assist businesses as needed when criminal activity is suspected."
Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Remy represented the case for the state at Esposito's Sentencing. The investigation was conducted by The Moorestown Township Police Department and The BCPO Financials Crimes Unit.
