Arrest Made In Paterson Shooting Investigation

36-Year-Old Paterson Man Charged For The July 3rd Downtown Paterson Afternoon Shooting, Hospitalizing Two

PATERSON, NJ.- Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported on Tuesday, following an investigation, a 29-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shooting that took place in downtown Paterson, New Jersey, on July 3, 2024, that injured an man and a woman.


     Daeron L. Jones, 29, of Paterson, has been formally charged with two counts of first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; first-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.



     Jones was apprehended just around noon on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, by members of the Paterson Police Department's Warrant Squad. Following being processed on the charges, Jones was remanded to an area county jail pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey.


     The charges stem from an investigation that began on July 3, 2024, when, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a shooting with injuries near the intersection of Broadway and Main Street in the City of Paterson.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a shooting crime scene, a 56-year-old Clifton, New Jersey woman, and a 35-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man both having sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims were immediately transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment. The man and the woman have since been released from the hospital.


     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify Jones as the suspect and the individual responsible for shooting the two victims.


     The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion to detain Jones pending trial. If convicted on all the charges Jones could face a minimum sentence of 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
