BREAKING: Newark, New Jersey Man Charged In Newark Shooting Death

34-YEAR-OLD NEWARK MAN CHARGED WITH GUNNING DOWN A MAN ON SUNDAY MORNING

     " Fuquan Johnson Has Been Charged With Murder & Weapons Offenses In The Shooting Death Of A 47-Year-Old Newark Man."

NEWARK, NJ.- According to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, a 34-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey man was Arrested on Sunday, July 3, 2023, in connection with the Shooting Death of a 47-Year-Old Newark man, that occurred Late Saturday Morning in Newark, New Jersey.


     On Saturday, July 2, 2023, at approximately 11:42 a.m., Members of The Newark Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Shooting on The 100 Block of First Street in Newark. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Tanton Venable, 47, of Newark, unresponsive from Multiple Gunshot Wounds. Mr. Venable was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.



     A Swift-Moving Investigation by Members of The Essex County Homicide Task Force and The Newark Police Department was able to identify Fuquan Johnson, 34, of Newark, New Jersey as the Suspect and the individual responsible for The Shooting Death of Mr. Venable.


     On Monday, July 3, 2023, Police were able to locate Mr. Johnson and Arrest him without incident. Accordingly, Mr. Johnson was Charged with One Count of First Degree Murder; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; and Third Degree Receiving Stolen Property.


     Mr. Johnson was Processed on The Charges and Remanded to The Essex County Correctional Facility, pending his First Appearance and Detention Hearing.
