Arrest Made In Sunday's Passaic Homicide

AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE IN THE SUNDAY EARLY MORNING ASPEN PLACE FATAL SHOOTING IN PASSAIC NEW JERSEY

     " Nysheem T. Mann Of Paterson, New Jersey Has Been Charged In The Fatal Shooting Death Of Donyell Coley Of Passaic, New Jersey."

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Wednesday, September 1, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced that based upon an investigation by The Passaic Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Federal Law Enforcement partners, Nysheem T. Mann, 32, of Paterson, New Jersey was arrested on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.



     The arrest was in connection to the Homicide that took place on Sunday, August 29, 2021 in the parking lot near 19 Aspen Place in the City of Passaic. Mr. Mann has been Charged with First Degree Murder;  Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun; and Second Degree Certain Persons Prohibited from Possessing a Handgun. 


     On Sunday, August 29, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to St. Mary’s Hospital in the City of Passaic on a report of a shooting victim that had arrived by way of a private vehicle. 


     Upon arrival, Police Officers were notified that the victim, Donyell Coley, 41-years-old from Passaic,  New Jersey suffered multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body and was in critical condition. At approximately 6:36 a.m., on Sunday Mr. Coley was pronounced deceased at Saint Mary’s Hospital. The investigation revealed that Mr. Coley was shot in a parking lot outside 19 Aspen Place in the City of Passaic. 


     The ensuing investigation determined that Mr. Mann was the individual responsible for the Murder of Mr. Coley. Mr. Mann was arrested on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., by members of the Passaic Police Department, Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Federal Law Enforcement Partners during a motor vehicle stop in the area of 88 Washington Street in Paterson, New Jersey.


     The Crime of Murder has a sentencing range from a minimum of Thirty Years up to Life imprisonment; The Crimes of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose;  and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, both have a sentencing range of Five to Ten Years in prison with 42 months to be served before parole eligibility; and The crime of Second Degree Certain Persons, has a sentencing range of Five to Ten Years in Prison with 5 Years to be served before parole eligibility.


     Mr. Mann was processed and remanded to The Passaic County Jail, The State has filed a motion for Pretrial Detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
